Some day hundreds of New England women may be wearing gowns and hats fashioned by a Norwood boy, now 15 years old who is enrolled as a student in fashion designing at the Henry O. Peabody trade school in Norwood and who this summer has made and sold several hats of his own creation.
The youth, William F Pudsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Pudsey of 518 Washington street Norwood, aspires to some day own his own custom tailer shop where he can create his own designs and remodel hats to his heart’s content.
Unlike other boys of his age, Pudsey prefers to spend his spare time in studying designing and leading fashion magazines rather than play baseball or engage in other athletic pastimes. “I intend to make fashion designing my life’s work.” Pudsey said yesterday, “and the more time I spend at it the sooner I will reach my goal. I hope some day to be able to study designing in Paris,” he stated, “and it may be a long way off as I still have two more years of study at the Peabody School.”
As a hobby, Pudsey likes to sit down at the piano and finger the keys. He can play some classical music and also likes to teach other children how to make costume jewelry.
Several days this past week, Pudsey sent a younger sister, Sandra Pudsey, 9, and her pal, Jacqueline Delaney, 11, attired in ancient costumes, and old hats out to parade through the Norwood business district as walking advertisements that some woman might like to have their old hats remodeled and that Pudsey could do the job. Placards pinned to their dresses advertised ‘the service offered by the young milliner.
