Thu public library was opened last Saturday for the distribution of books, after being closed about five weeks, in which few people have any idea of the great amount of work done in re-cataloging.

Considering the fact that each book had to be handled four times in the work of pasting tho bookplate, cardholder, date slip, and number, and then add to that the putting in their proper places on the shelves, the work was done in a remarkably short time.

The library is now in the condition that the trustees have aimed for ever since the removal to the new building, and with the completion of the card catalogue everything will be in perfect shape.

The cut-down in the appropriation by the town last spring at the annual meeting hampers the trustees in view of the many necessary expenditures coming up this year, and the result will be that these necessary expenses will be met and few books bought in consequence.

We believe it is poor policy on the part of the town to cut any revenue for its schools or library. Both are necessary to the town and should be given every possible consideration and kept up to date in every sense of the word.
