Emerson Rug’s new Norwood showroom will open officially today at 950 Providence Highway. Attending the affair will be civic leaders from Norwood, with congratulations for this famous carpet firm. Actually, the grand opening marks a milestone not only for Emerson Rug— but for the entire community. Both the store and the towns around it have grown together hand-in-hand.
It was 13 years ago that Emerson Rug Co. opened its first Norwood store at 960 Providence Highway. It was a cheery little shop—and a .friendly group of people were always on hand to greet you.
Then Norwood and surrounding communities started to grow. And with them grew the fame of Emerson Rug. New families flooded the area. Inevitably they turned to Emerson Rug’s Norwood store for broadloom carpets and rugs.
Soon the Norwood store was overflowing with customers. Obviously, it was no longer large enough to serve this thriving, expanding community.
Recently, a new Emerson Rug showroom was started on a large tract of land adjoining the old store. This month it was completed—an immense store—the largest carpet showroom for miles around. And in it you’ll find the largest selection of famous brand broadlooms gathered in any carpet specialty store.
Emerson Rug Is Famous For Service
But this is only part of the Emerson Rug picture. Behind the scenes is a huge organization made up of highly skilled specialists and modern facilities. There are the installation experts—seasoned craftsmen who take pride in a perfect installation.

There are carpet cutters, service men, delivery men, measurers and salesmen— offering every type of customer convenience. From, the moment the customer enters the store—’til long after the carpet is set on her floor . . . Emerson Rug backs her purchase with service.
In 1934 the company opened its first store under the management of President John Reilly and Treasurer John Emerson. Today, Emerson Rug has four large stores in Natick, Quincy, Norwood and Stoneham and maintains a sales force of 20 managed by Dan Reilly, vice president for sales.
These four stores give Emerson Rug more purchasing power than other carpet companies. And this is probably the big reason why more people flock to Emerson Rug every year. When George Trehub, vice president for merchandising, goes out on a buying trip, he has the bargaining power of four large stores behind him.
That means he can buy the carpet he wants at a price few other carpet retailers can get. Simply because he’s buying in larger quantities. Result: Emerson can offer famous national advertised brands at $3, $4 or even $5 a square yard less than comparable carpet.
Emerson Folks Are Four Neighbors
Many members of Emerson Rug Co. come from nearby towns and are probably well known to our readers. President John Reilly lives in Dedham Treasurer John Emerson resides in Newton. Vice President for Sales Dan Reilly lives in Dedham, as does Norwood store manage Bill Collins. George Trehub, vice president for merchandising, hails from Milton, and Lenny Ross, Norwood salesman, comes from nearby Norfolk. Emerson stores are open evenings ’till 9 p.m. Saturdays ’till 5:0 p.m.
