Bay State Management, which proposes the erection of a 7 1/2 acre shopping center on Walpole Street between Hawes Brook and Number 438, will present an application to the Board of Appeals at a Public Hearing August 27.
John P. Alevizos, representing Bay State, is requesting a permit for the construction of 75,000 feet of building with parking for 500 automobiles.
The buildings would house a supermarket, a varied department store, and 8 to 10 specialty stores.
At the June 18th meeting of the Norwood Selectmen, Chairman James J. Drummey of the Board of Appeals vised the Town Fathers of application.
No hearing was held on date set by the Board of appeals for June 25th and the matter will be aired at August 27th hearing.
At the June meeting of the Selectmen, Drummey had presented a plan of land already purchased by Bay State. At that time the company was negotiating for additional frontage on Walpole Street.
Alevizos, a graduate of Harvard College and Professor at Boston University, had conducted a marketing study and found the area suitable for the proposed shopping center, said Drummey.
