AFTER THREE WEEKS OF CONSTANT USE, the new Hawes Brook Swimming Pool bears layer of green scum, indicated by black area on sides near top, and a brown film and silt deposit on lower sides and bottom, requiring pool to be drained for cleaning. The green scum, caused by stagnant water, was scrubbed off last weekend and the pool was thoroughly cleaned by town workmen before being refilled.
Authorities say that the pool should be cleaned once a week, which would mean that the pool would probably be shut down on Mondays and Tuesdays Because of the severe drought, however, this is the last time that pool will be refilled until the water supply crisis has passed. (McLean Photo)
