
Victor U. Taggart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Taggart of 1285 Washington Street, Richard A. Wenstrom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Wenstrom of 265 Vernon Street; Donald R. Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Perry of 407 Nahatan street; Bartley E. King, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Bartley King of 238 Vernon street; and John P. Haughey, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Haughey of 24 Monroe street, Norwood, have enlisted in the regular army for three years according to Sergeant Nick Damiano, the Norwood recruiter
Taggart chose Personnel Specialist school and Wenstrom was guaranteed Aviation Electronics Maintenance Schooling. Perry, King, and Haughey elected to serve with the famed Army Paratroopers. All five men enlisted under the Army “Buddy System” which guarantees them to take basic training together in the same company during their eight weeks of basic at Fort Dix, New Jersey
When Perry, King and Haughey complete the rugged three weeks of jump school, they will be awarded their “Silver Wings” and a bonus of $55.00 extra pay per month while In jump status.
Sergeant Nick Damiano, whose office is in the Norwood Post Office, stated that any young men interested in schooling, Airborne, or their preference of stateside or overseas assignments should contact him by calling 762-4800 for an appointment.
