Bishop Wright Invited Here For St. George’s R.C. Rites Monday

His Excellency, the Most Reverend John J Wright, DDM Auxiliary Bishop of Boston has been invited to come to Norwood to bless the Veterans’ War Memorial just erected outside St. George’s Roman Catholic Lithuanian Church St. James Avenue, by the parishioners of that parish in faithful tribute to their deceased and living veterans

On next Monday morning. August 15 there will be a military mass at 8 00 o’clock at St Georges for the deceased and living veterans. The Veterans organizations of Norwood will attend Mass with massed flags and the servers at Mass will be veterans of the parish The public blessing of the War Memorial will take place that evening at 7 00 o’clock.


The following Veterans Organizations of Norwood and locality will attend the military Mass and the unveiling and blessing of the War Memorial American Legion Norwood Post 70, Timothy J Coughlin, Commander, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Hazel Wood president, the Veterans of Foreign Wars with their commander Charles Ennis, the V F W auxiliary, Miss Agnes Fraser, president.

The following are the members of St. George’s War Memorial Committee: Rev. Felix E. Norbut, the pastor. Rev. Albin F. Janunas, his assistant, Charles Mickunas, Vincent Kudirka, George Versiackas, Adolph Koval, Clement Kaseta and Agnes Smilgis.

The War Memorial was designed by Thomas Carrigg & Son of Boston and Quincy. It is a large Westerly Rhode Island Monument superimposed with an Italian Carrara marble statue of St. George.


Many of the clergy and veterans of Norwood and vicinity will be present for the Military Mass and public blessing of the War Memorial. The dedication ceremonies will take place on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the day also that the cessation of hostilities took place, ending World War II when the Japanese surrendered to the Allied Forces.
