HOULTON, Me. — Ricker College Bulldog center Fred Carritte, Norwood, has been recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as the fifth-best field goal shooter in the nation among small college players.
Carritte, a senior who stands 6-4, has hit on .646 percent of his shots from the floor during season play. According to official NCAA statistics, he netted 53 of 82 shots in ten games.
Ricker is in second place in the nation among small colleges in field goal percentages with an average of .523. To date the Bulldogs have a 17-3 season standing and are 9-0 in the Northeast College Conference.
The former Norwood star leads the way. Business Major Carritte is the club’s second-highest point earner, turning in a 14 1 points a game average. The 185-pound center has scored in double figures ten times for a total of 212 points. His best point production night was January 20 when he hooped 30 points against Aroostook State Teachers College at Presque Isle, Me
Bulldog Co-Captain Fred has scored 91 field goals and 30 foul tosses in season action and is averaging more than 13 rebounds a game, leading the team in that department. Bulldog Coach Gib Chapman says that Fred is one of the hardest workers on the boards.
