Couple Selected As ‘Good Neighbors’

TOM BRENEMAN, Genial host of ABC’s popular “Breakfast in Hollywood“ program, is heard Monday through Friday over the ABC network and awards a daily “Good Neighbor” orchid to a person distinguishing himself or herself by service to others.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Prescott of 810 Neponset Street, Norwood, have been selected as the “Good Neighbors of the Day on Tom Breneman’s “Breakfast in Hollywood” program, and as such will be saluted nationally from Hollywood next Thursday, October 17, is was announced today by the American Broadcasting Co. The program will be heard locally over WCOP.

A letter written by Mary Emily O’Mally of 307 Morton Street, Jamaica Plain, nominating the Prescotts for the “Good Neighbor*’ honors, will be read by Tom Breneman. the host of this informal program. Following the broadcast, a beautiful Arm-Roy orchid will be dispatched from Hollywood via air express to Mr. and Mrs. Prescott.

Mrs. O’Mally’s letter to Breneman follows:

“I would like to recommend Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Prescott of 810 Neponset Street, Norwood. Massachusetts, as good neighbors.

“Each Christmas for the past forty years, they have arranged a party for the children of the neighborhood, which consists of a Christmas play in which the children take part; the appearance of Santa Claus, who gives each child a present and in late years, there have been movies.

“I worked for this couple for five years, as a domestic, and when I was married they gave me a lovely wedding which meant very much to me as I had no folks in this country.

“To me and to hundreds of children they really are good neighbors.”

All “Good Neighbors” named daily throughout the year on this program are eligible to win an award of a S1,000 war bond. Nationally known personalities will comprise the board of judges of “America’s No. 1 Good Neighbor.” The winner will be named at an award ceremony to be held sometime early in 1947.
