Whenever anything Legion-wise is going on, there is usually a busy individual in the thick of it, full of pep and activity, and that will be -Victor E. Blasenak who will be installed as the new commander of the Norwood post on October 14th. But Vic Blasenak became an unusually modest person when questioned about his activities for the Legion organization and others in town. It was more than a little hard to get him to talk, but this is the story.

Born in Norwood and educated in the Norwood public schools, his first job was with the Plimpton Press, and he has passed the thirty-year mark with the firm working as a bookbinder. Pie entered the service in 1917 and was in the 302nd supply company of the 76th division at Camp Devens. He was discharged in 1918 and returned to his job at Plimpton’s.

Charter Member

He is a charter member of the local Legion post. As a member of the band he played the trombone, and he was the band manager at one time. He has served on the executive board of the post, as junior vice commander, and moves up to the post of commander from the position of senior vice commander. He has also been particularly active in the charitable work carried on by the Legion and in the money-raising activity which produces the funds-making possible the generous gifts of the Legion to those in need in Norwood. He recalls that at one Christmas season the Lcgion.’pro-vided for sixty-five families, and that, he said, required real organization.

This year Mr. Blasenak anticipates a busy program in view of the national convention coming to Boston next year. The Legion meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday in their quarters at the Civic.

Mr. Blasenak is also a member of the Masonic organization and belongs to the local bookbinders union. He served on the town welfare board for a year where his Legion experience along similar lines served him in good stead. Married, the Blasenak home is at 102 Walpole Street.
