Line Of March To Form At Balch School Monday At 10
With a renewed emphasis on permanent world peace, Norwood will join in the annual observance of Armistice Day next Monday, featured by a parade and public exercises at the World War I memorial cannon in front of the Town Hall.
The program, which is held under the auspices of the American Legion, will open with a parade of nearly a dozen uniformed units, beginning at 10 a m., at the Balch School in South Norwood. The line of march will proceed up Washington Street to Nahntan Street to Central Street to Railroad Avenue to Washington Street, ending at the Municipal Building.
Speakers at the exercises will be Charles Hayden, principal of the Norwood Senior High School and ex-Army Captain, and John J. Feeney, Commander of the Norwood Post. Veterans of Foreign Wars. Prayers will be offered by Legion Post Chaplain Donald Hamlin. The Norwood Legion Band will sound laps and the exercises will close with the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”
The Armistice Day parade will mark the first public appearance of the High School Band in the smart new uniforms recently purchased through public subscription. An escort of police will head the parade, followed in line by the American Legion Band, the American Legion Post. American Legion Auxiliary, massed colors and color guards. St. Catherine’s Drum Corps. Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and the High School Band.
Commander Arthur Glieghauf of the Legion has extended an invitation to all returned servicemen to participate in the program.
The Legion’s annual Armistice Eve Party will be held at Legion Headquarters tomorrow night at 8 o’clock for Legionnaires and friends. There will be entertainment and dancing to the music of Dick Pennington and his orchestra.
