Norwood, Walpole Clash Tomorrow

By FRANK WALL
On last March 13th the Norwood and Walpole hocky teams clashed for the most coveted award in school boy hockey as they tangled for the state hockey championship before 13,000 fans at the Boston Garden. Tomorrow night the two teams clash again in the new surroundings for the Bay State League, the Walpole Four Seasons rink.
Missing from last year’s team are such names as Blaine, Maus, Paul Angelo, Tim Twomey of Norwood and Dick Dleaney, Steve Woods, Jim Mulvee, and Steve Anchu-kait’s of Walpole but the interest is as high as ever as the teams tangle right in their own backyard. The varsity game is expected to start at 8 p.m with the Norwood and Walpole JVs starting things off in a 7 o’clock fray.
No other Bay State teams are scheduled that night so fans had better make plans to get their tickets early. Tickets may be purchased at any time previous to the game at the Walpole rink
The game itself should be a beauty for both teams appear to be just about equal. Norwood has scored 8 goals in their first three games. They have bowed to Needham, 1-0, in the seasons opener, but then came alive to blanked Wellesley, 2-0, and Natick, 8-0. Walpole on the other hand started with a 5-0 shutout over Milton but ran into trouble as they bowed to Needham, 3-2, and were tied in a big upset by Dedham, 1-1. The records have Norwood with 2-1 tally. Walpole has a 1-1-1 record in the tie win and loss column. So on paper it looks like a real dog-eat-dog affair with the team getting the breaks possibly winning.
Coaches Charley Cinto of Walpole and Don Wheeler of Norwood have their charges all set for the big game. But both would settle for a one goal victory right now.
As far as personnel is concerned Norwood probably has the most dynamic player in
the league in Richy Hebner who has scored four of Norwood’s eight goals. He is the most feared player in the league with a 6ft 200 pound frame to go along with a blazing burst of speed and a terrific eye. Walpole can counter with Brad Brooks, Captain of the ‘Hilltopers, who has been outstanding in the first three Walpole games scoring two goals and assisting on three more. Brooks is the hustling type of player who never lets up for a instant on the ice.
Norwoods first line will have Bill Hasenfus centering for Captain Bob Donahue and Pete Oberländer. This line has come into its own in the last two games. In the big Natick win, Donahue and Hasenfus scored two goals each and Oberländer assisted in three. Donahue on the line, is always digging. Hasenfus, a fine scorer, has a good shot as he showed in last week’s game against Natick. Oberlander is always plugging. Although only a junior, he played his best game Saturday when he picked up three assists.
