SIXTH MLEET (FHTNC)— The attack carrier USS Midway was engaged in ‘’Operation Rendezvous” in the Mediterranean Sea from March 17 to 25.
Aboard the Midway are Edward C. Hayman, machinist’s mate third class, USN, son of Mr and Mrs. C. L. Hayman of 54 Rockhill street, and husband of Mrs Carolyn Hayman of 51 Veterans road, and Stanley F Tomershea. seaman, USN, son of Mr and Mrs Stephan Tomershea of 14 Hartford street, all of Norwood.
“Operation Rendezvous” was a NATO maneuver designed to maintain a standard of readiness and battle efficiency of General Ridgeway’s European Defense Forces Naval forces of France. Greece, Italy, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States participated in the operation.
The flattop is commanded by Navy Capt. Frank O Beirne and is the flagship of Rear Admiral Stuart H Ingersoll USN. Commander Carrier Division 4. She was one of the key warships taking part in the exercise.
The entire exercise was conducted under simulated wartime conditions with the Midway s aircraft engaged in all types of air operations and tactical ground support flights.
