In recognition of his dedicated service to the community, the Norwood Rotary Club honored Veterans Agent Ted Mulvehill with the prestigious Service Above Self Award, the club’s highest accolade.
This award acknowledges Mulvehill’s commendable contributions to Norwood’s troops, veterans, and their families. According to Rotary Club member Martha Colamaria, Mulvehill exhibits a deeply personal approach, diligently overseeing and ensuring the support of every family under his care.
Bart King, another Rotary Club member, expressed the club’s desire to pay tribute to veterans this year, with Mulvehill being a standout choice for recognition. Not only does Mulvehill demonstrate unwavering commitment to his role, but his prior service with the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976 further underscores his dedication.
“We believe him to be exemplary, possibly the best in the state,” remarked King. “His unwavering support and dedication to his duties set a high standard.”
During its March 13 meeting, the Rotary Club also presented Mulvehill with a $2,500 donation for the Norwood Military Family Support Group. Mulvehill expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Rotary Club, highlighting their consistent commitment to service above self, a principle the club exemplifies.
Established in 2002, the Norwood Military Family Support Group extends assistance to local families with loved ones serving in the military. Over the years, the group has offered various forms of support, from practical tasks like snow shoveling and lawn mowing to providing emotional support and fostering community among military families.
Mulvehill emphasized the significance of the support group’s work, noting the invaluable support both financially and emotionally from external sources. He highlighted the evolving role of the group, which now focuses primarily on providing phone cards and covering postage costs for care packages sent overseas.
The generous donation from the Rotary Club will contribute to this cause, ensuring that military families receive the support they need. Mulvehill affirmed the office’s commitment to serving these families, addressing their needs for as long as necessary.
“Anything that they need, they can get from this office,” Mulvehill said. “For as long as there is a need, we will be there.”
The Rotary Club’s fundraising efforts, including an ad book featuring contributions from over 50 local businesses and individuals, made this donation possible. Thomas Colamaria of the Rotary Club expressed gratitude for the community’s response, acknowledging their collective effort to assist Norwood’s brave servicemen and women in safeguarding America’s freedom.
