Listed among the thousands of recently appointed aviation cadets in the U S Army Air Corps are three young men from Norwood, all taking pre-flight training at the huge Air Corps Replacement Training Center (Air Crew) at Maxwell Field, Alabama.
Cadet George Peter Clinch is the son of Mr and Mrs. John A. Clinch of 36 Fifth Street, Cadet Casper John Perednia is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Perednia of 94 Concord Avenue, and Cadet Ernest Juliuis Wiesman is the son of Mr and Mrs. Ernest B. Wiesman of 176 Roosevelt avenue, all of Norwood.
These cadets will complete their pre-flight training at Maxwell Field Alabama, within the prescribed number of weeks, after which time they will be sent to one of the several primary flying schools in the Southeast Air Corps Training Center for the first phase of their pilot training.
Mr and Mrs. Michael Duffy. Andrews Street, had a call from their son, Pvt. Thomas C. Duffy, stationed at Fort Bragg, South Carolina, last Sunday.
Russell Bragg, has been transferred form Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Fort Benning, Georgia.
Bert Johnson, Cross Street, formerly stationed at Holabird Depot, Maryland, is now at Pine Camp. New York. He’s in the Quartermaster Corps.
Daniel J Benedetti, Austin Street, who enlisted in the Air Corps just after Christmas, is stationed at Drew Field, Tampa, Florida. He’s in an air warning unit, sighting planes and also does some electrical work.
His first station was Fort Dix, New Jersey, and he was home once on a thirty-six-hour leave from there. He’s been in Florida a couple of months. He was a Bird and Son employee before enlisting.
Clifton Pike, Elliot Street, who was called to active duty with Company G, National Guard, is a sergeant now His present station is Plymouth.
Roy H. Hansen, Hoyle Street, who joined the Coast Guard last September, has had two visits home from his Baltimore station since enlisting. He had worked at Curity, Norwood Press, and Guild Square Pharmacy previous to his joining the service.
Robert J Walsh, Myrtle Street was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey when last heard from. He entered the service last July and his first station was Fort Bragg, South Carolina. He had a furlough for the Christmas holidays and was home, but was called back two days before Christmas day.
