Pfc. Chester A. Piedzewich, formerly ot 92 Railroad Avenue, Norwood, has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was felled by shrapnel wounds in the face this September.
Inducted into the Army from Norwood on September 2, 1942. Pfc. Piedezwich received his basic training with the 117th Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson. S. C., Fort Benning. Ga.; Camp Blanding. Fla.; Camp Forest, Tenn., and Camp Atterbury, Ind.
He went overseas in February and began active duty in the invasion of France on D-Day. From there, his unit advanced through Belgium, Holland, and now Germany.
Pfc. Piedezwich, who is now back at the front, has a younger brother, John, who is in the maritime service.
