The Bell Telephone Building in 1922

The architectural firm of Korslund, LeNormand, and Quann, Inc. of 506 Washington Street, Norwood, today announced the purchase of the Old Telephone Building on Vernon Street.

The 7000-square foot Colonial type building will be remodelled and redecorated for the firm’s occupancy about the first of April Plans are now being carried out which will change the inside of the present building to accommodate the architectural firm’s needs. There will be a reception room with general office space, several conference rooms; two large drafting rooms, an engineering and specification department, along with a library and a small dining room for coffee breaks and lunches. The basement of the building will be fireproofed to provide storage space for plans.

The local firm, one of the largest in the field of school building design, has been on the top floor of the Conger block since 1948. Known for their work on the Prescott and Cleveland schools, they also designed the additions to the Callahan and Senior High School, and Henry O. Peabody School for girls.

Korslund, Le Normand, and Quann plans were used for building the local Mason-Nei-lan, Savogran, C A Briggs, and Nortronics plants and for the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, St Catherine’s Convent, and St. George Church.

The company has sixty schools to its credit and is now working on the High School in Beverly, the Junior High School in Medfield, and three regional vocational-technical high schools in the greater Brockton. Lawrence, and Fall River areas.

The present firm traces its origin back to 1925 when Harry J. Korslund came to Norwood and went to work with William Upham in 1925. Seven years later Mr. Korslund opened his own architectural office which he maintained until 1935 when he was called to Washington, D C , to work in the office of the U S Architects’ Office where he supervised the designing of numerous Post Offices, especially in the Midwestern states. In 1937.

Mr Korslund, a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Harvard College Graduate School of Architecture, reopened a Norwood office in the old Norwood Apartments He operated his own practice from 1937 until 1955 when the present corporation was formed with Mr. Korslund as president.

Robert A LeNormand, a veteran of more than 34 years in the field of architecture, including his own practice from 1945 to 1951, is vice president of the firm Leonard W. Quann, who has been associated with Mr. Korslund since 1938, is clerk of the corporation, and Francis W Quann is treasurer Robert T Gordon is chief draftsman, Vincent A Iannone is associate architect, and Rene Bouchard is comptroller.
