TO CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY TONIGHT
Grand Officers to Attend Reception for Grand Foreman Arthur L. Bateman
The 20th anniversary of Norwood Lodge, A.O.U.W., will be observed this evening in Village Hall. As part of the celebration, a complimentary reception will be held in honor of Grand Foreman Arthur L. Bateman.
Norwood Lodge was organized on April 26, 1882, becoming the first fraternal insurance lodge established in the town. The lodge has grown steadily and now has a membership of 237. Over its two decades of activity, it has distributed nearly $60,000 to members in sick benefits and other charitable assistance. In addition, the order has paid $52,000 to the families of deceased Norwood members.
Among the charter members is Charles T. Wheelock, Norwood’s current town treasurer, who has served as lodge receiver for twenty consecutive years. Grand Foreman Arthur L. Bateman, who joined the lodge in April 1888, has advanced through all the chairs and served two years as master workman.
Tonight’s gathering in Village Hall is expected to be one of the most notable events in the lodge’s history. Delegations from many lodges throughout the jurisdiction will attend. Invitations have been extended to — and accepted by — Grand Master Videto, Grand Receiver Temple, Hon. John Haskell Butler, and other grand officers.
Dean S. Swift serves as chairman of the Committee of Arrangements.
