Randolph Skater, 21, Wins ‘Miss Roll-Land’ Honors

A tall, stately brunette, Miss Marylou Gaffney, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrg. Frank R. Gaffney of 118 West Street, Randolph, was chosen by five judges at Roll-Land on Friday night as Miss Roll-Land of 1949 from a field of 11 contestants and will appear at a Worcester roller-skating rink tomorrow night to compete for the all New England title.
Charles Santoro of Roll-Land, together with Mis, Arbita Ranson of West Roxbury, runner-up for the Miss Roll-Land title, will accompany Miss Gaffney to Worcester with Miss Benson filling in as alternate if necessary.
The selection of Miss Gaffney climaxed a six weeks’ elimination contest, and girls from Norwood and all of the surrounding towns were among those seeking the coveted title. The winner at the Worcester competition will be crowned “Miss Sunkist” and will be given a *1000 wardrobe and a nine-day trip to Miami. The girls are being judged for their, poise, beauty, personality and talent. The competition at Worcester Is expected to be keen but the judges at Roll-Land last Friday are of the opinion that their selection will have an even chance against all comers. The judges were Thomas F. Williams of Brighton, Frank Lae of Pawtucket, R. I„ Carl Don-oven of Norwood, Alfred Snyder of Dedham, and “Scoop” McLean of the Norwood Messenger staff.
