To the Editor of the Norwood Advertiser.
Mr. Editor:
I desire to call the attention of the voters of Norwood, to a few facts concerning C. M. Callahan, Esq., nominee for the school board.
Mr. Callahan is a native of the town, a product of our public schools, and an energetic, and ambitious young man.
After spending three years at the Norwood High School, he graduated from Lawrence Academy, Groton, Mass., in the class of ’94, and from Williams College with honors in the class of ’98. He then spent three years in tho study of law at Harvard University, received the degree L. L. B. in 1901, was admitted to the Massachusetts’ Bar Association in September of the same year.
It is evident from the above statement of facts, that Mr. Callahan has received the best possible training for the position on the school board, and is well equipped for the position which his friends are seeking for him. As a graduate of our schools, he is interested in their welfare, and will do all in his power to increase their efficiency.
Another fact which should appeal to the voters who believe that our schools will develop the physical, as well as the mental man, is that Mr. Callahan while at college, took an active part in athletics. He was a member of the varsity football eleven, and captain of the Williams College track team, and won many honors for his college. He illustrates the best type of the college man, the athlete and the student.
Mr. Callahan’s election to the board would mean that the members of the board and the young men who are interested in promoting athletics in our schools, could have the advice and assistance of a trained college athlete, and one who has demonstrated by his own course, that high scholarship can go hand in hand with athletic success. Added to this, Mr. Callahan is a quiet, unassuming young man, conscientious and conservative, one who will honor the town by serving on the school board.
Citizen,
Norwood, February 25th, 1904.
