Bad news to Norwood fishermen —especially those who have been after an old-battler Hornpout at Ellis Pond. Young John McLean, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John McLean of 36 David Terrace, Norwood, beat out his older brother anglers when he pulled a 13-inch whopper out of the Pond which was big enough to take a first prize in the Boston GLOBE Fishing Contest.

Johnny was awarded a magnificent spinning rod and reel at the Globe office on Tuesday, for taking first prize in the Hornpout Division. The record fish was weighed and verified at Sam’s store in Norwood, one of the official weighing stations in the area. Johnny won out over thousands of other young fishermen all over the state.

According to reports, Johnny’s “catfish” was one of the largest ever taken from the local pond.
