Veteran Welfare Board Member Is Candidate
Among nomination papers to be filed tomorrow for certification by the registrars will be those of John A, Abdallah, former Welfare Board chairman and present Board member. Abdallah seeks the Herbert V. Brady vacancy to be filled in the special March 16th election.
Mr Abdallah, member of one of the oldest Syrian families in this state, has been a lifelong resident of Norwood. After graduation from Norwood schools, he attended Suffolk Law School.
He has long been associated with the business of government. He Is a former employee of the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. On many .occasions, he has appeared before state legislative committees on bills in which he was interested.
In Norwood, he has served on the town’s recreation committee, playground committee, and as chairman and member of the Welfare Board, Old Age Assistance Board, and as local selection agent for the CCC. He has urged on the town the adoption of precinct voting and an industrial development commission.
Associated with his father in a business established in Norwood for over three decades, Mr. Abdallah was the first president of the South Norwood Improvement Association and was one who worked for improvements in the district such as a branch Post Office and better street lighting.
Mr. Abdallah is a member of the Advisory Draft Board No. 199, of the Norwood Chamber of Commerce, and of the Massachusetts Relief Officers Association.
