
Wins Air Medal
The name of a Norwood aviator was included in a list of 24 New England airmen who have been awarded Air Medals for meritorious service while participating in anti-submarine patrol flights. The announcement, made on Sunday by the war department, stated that the fliers were all serving with the 12th Air Support Command in northwest Africa.
The name of the Norwood aviator who can now add a bronze oak leaf cluster to his air medal is Staff Sergeant John E. Marshall of 35 Walnut Avenue.
Arrives In England
Word has been received of the safe arrival of Pfc. Louis Breen, U. S. A., in England. On the trip over, Pfc. Breen, whose home is on Nahatan Street, met his cousin, Pfc. Henry F. Breen, 3rd, of Prospect Street and Pfc. William Walsh of Myrtle Street. It was the first time he had seen the boys from his own neighborhood since joining the service.
Now In England

Lieut. Richard Merrill, Florence Avenue, is now with U. S. Army forces in England.
Gets Promotion
Stephen F. Tomaszewicz, husband of Anna Tomaszewicz of 8 St. James Avenue, Norwood, has been promoted from the grade of Private to that of Technician Grade S at the Engineer Unit Training Center, an Army Service Forces installation at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
At the time of his promotion, Tomaszewicz was serving in the 787th Engineer Petroleum Dist. Co. The Engineer Unit Training Center is the largest single concentration of Engineer troops in the nation.
SPAR School Graduate
SPAR Margaret Thomas of 9 Atwood Avenue, who is home on leave after graduating from Yeoman’s School in Florida will report in Boston on Saturday morning for assignment to duty.
Advanced In Rank
Wave Priscilla R. Holman, daughter of Selectman and Representative Charles F. Holman and Mrs. Holman of 8 Belmont Street has been advanced to the petty officer rating of Aviation Metalsmith 2nd class from 3rd class, the U. S Naval Air Station at Jacksonville, Fla. announced this week.

Miss Holman, who joined the Women’s Reserve of the Navy on November 20, 1942, successfully passed her examinations and was advanced in rate on Jan. 1.
Metalsmith Holman is 23 years old and is now attached to the Assembly and Repair Department of the Jacksonville station. She is doing repair and maintenance work on the station’s training planes in the sheet-metal division.
She learned her trade at the Norman, Okla, metalsmith school, after completing her recruit training at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
In Ambulance Corps
Pvt. James Nugent of Hoyle street is at the O’Reilly Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, for further training in the ambulance corps of the medical detachment.
May Give Information
A ruling from Arthur Roche of the state department of public welfare made in reply to a request of Norwood selectmen, states that local boards of welfare may furnish welfare information to selective service boards. Information is treated as confidential by both boards.
