Norwood or Framingbam Is Probable Site Governor Meets Commission Today or Tomorrow
Before the week is out the State Racing Commission is expected to issue a license for a horse track. Yesterday afternoon, Gov Curley informed the members of the commission that he would hold a conference with them today or tomorrow to discuss the granting of a license. It is understood that East Boston is definitely out as a site for a track. The extra expenditure to erect a track in the Noddle Island district has been found to be too great a burden and although members of ‘ le Eastern Racing Association, Inc, made every effort to raise the necessary fund, it is reported that they were unable to do so. Norwood Extends Offers Should there be a track in Massachusetts this year it will be either at Norwood or Framingham.
The Boston Metropolitan Airport, Inc, which has applied for the Norwood license, ha offered to double the State’s cut of the pari-mutuel handle, once the track has been paid for. It also has invited several prominent horsemen who are now affiliated with rival groups to join with it. The Governor and the commission are expected to take the Norwood offer under consideration. Several horsemen outside the Boston Metropolitan Airport group have been reluctant in joining the Norwood group as they believe three percent would be an insufficient sum to cover the operating cost of a track. It is possible that the license may be awarded the Eastern Racing Association but it will not build in East Boston.
Several conferences have been had the past few days between the E. R. A. Inc, the Boston Metropolitan Airport, Inc, and the group interested in putting a track in Framingham and an amalgamation of all three may result. Members of the Eastern Racing Association have been looking for a new site the past few days.
