The 100th Friendly Ice Cream Shop opened Friday in Norwood with Clark Holland as Manager. Located next to the. Star Market on Nahatan Street, the newest Friendly will be open from 10.00 a. m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 11:00 a. m. to midnight on Sundays.

The opening ceremonies centered around the release of 100 red, white and blue helium-filled balloons. Postcards, which entitle the finder to prizes, were attached to the balloons The card traveling the farthest distance away from the shop will earn its finder a special prize.

Participating in the ceremonies were “Miss Massachusetts,” Kathy Kenneally of Whitman, Curtis Blake, cofounder of the firm, Town Manager, Walter Blasenak and Manager Clark Holland.

Major Mudd, WNAC-TV personality, entertained a large crowd of youngsters in the afternoon and distributed coloring books,, balloons and souvenir buttons.

Friendly shops are known for tasty sandwiches, soup and ice cream. The firm has long-range plans calling for 200 shops to be in operation by 1970.

Also making an appearance at the Norwood Friendly during the afternoon was “Miss Norwood,” Janice Ryan.
