Pfc. Michael Georgeu Felled In Action In France Second Time
Five Norwood men are reported wounded in action and a sixth local man is listed as missing in action in Germany, according to word received by their families. They are:
PFC. GUY J. CISTERNELLI, 7 Dean Street, slightly wounded in Germany.
SGT. VINCENT P. STANOVITCH, 568 Pleasant Street, wounded In Germany.
T/SGT. SIDNEY H. SIMMONS, 102 Broadway, missing in action in Germany.
S/SGT. EDWARD W. MARKO, 1370 Washington Street, wounded in Germany.
PFC. HERBERT A. KALLSTROM, 13 JohnIson court, slightly wounded in Germany.
PFC. MICHAEL GEORGEU, 212 Lenox Street, wounded second time in France.
Pfc Cisternelli. who is the son of Mr and Mrs. Domcnic Cistcr-nelli was wounded slightly on March 11th. He was attached to a chemical motor battalion He entered the Army in September, 1943 and received his basic training at Fort Eustis Virginia and Fort Bragg North Carolina. He attended the local schools and was graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1943 For a short time after his graduation from high school Cisternelli worked for Bird &Son in East Walpole.
WOUNDED IN LEG
Sergt. Vincent P Stanovitch is the son of William Stanovitch of 558 Pleasant Street and husband of Mary Stanovitch of the same address His wife learned that he was wounded in the leg in a letter from the sergeant received Monday She has not yet received official notification of his wound He is now hospitalized in England and has received the Purple Heart.
Sgt Stanovitch was attached to the 110th Infantry and has been in the service for two years. He received his basic training at Camp Tauchc, Louisiana and has been overseas for 15 months. Two of his brothers in the armed services are S/Sgt Anthony Stanovitch, attached to an engineer outfit now in Germany, and S/Sgt. John Stanovitch who is at present stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina Sgt. Vincent Stanovitch is a graduate of Norwood High School and worked for the Bendix Marine Division in Norwood before he entered the Army.
Technical Sergeant Sidney H. Simmons, whose wife. Mrs. Ester (Jones) Stanovitch was notified Monday that he is missing in action in Germany, has been in the service for four years. He was a member of the National Guard before the war He attended the Norwood schools. His mother is Mrs. Mildred Simmons who lives on Jordan street, Franklin.
Sgt. Marko was felled while serving with the 80th Armored Infantry in Germany on March 13. His wife. Mrs. Blanche Marko, was informed Friday by the War Department. He is reported to have been wounded in the back and arm by a sniper.
Sgt Marko has been over since December ot last year. In Juno of 1944, he went to Camp Croft, South Carolina, for basic training. Previous to this, he served in the cavalry of the regular army for four and a half years, serving at Pearl Harbor, Fort Ethan Allan, Vermont and Fort Riley, Kansas.
He is married to the former Blanche Fortin of Vermont. The couple have a nine-year-old son, Robert Francis.
FELLED MARCH 6
Pic Kallstrom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Kallstrom of 15 Johnson Court, was slightly wounded in action in Germany on March 6th. He has been serving with the 9th Armored Division.
Pf., Kallstrom entered the service in March, 1943, and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Camp Polk, Louisiana. He went overseas in September of last year.
Pfc. Kallstrom is a graduate of Norwood High, Class of ’41 and was employed by Orent Brothers before entering the service. He is now convalescing in a hospital in France.
WOUNDED SECOND TIME
Felled a second lime in France, Pfc. Georgeu was wounded seriously while serving with the 16th Armored Division in France on March, 19th, according to the War Department telegram received yesterday by his mother, Mrs. Sarafalla Georgeu of 212 Lenox Street. He had previously been wounded in action in France on October 16th.
Pfc. Georgeu entered the service in October. 1943, receiving his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark. He shipped overseas in June of last year, landing at Naples, Italy.
He attended the Nonvood schools and prior to entering the service was employed at Bird Floor Covering.
A brother. Pvt. Dcmctruls, 18, is serving with the Marines in the South Pacific. Another brother, Spiros is employed at the Norwood Post Office.
