Guided Tour of the Day House–November 3, 2024
November 3, 2024 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Join us for a tour of the Day House this Sunday afternoon, any time between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
Enjoy the house’s unique design and beautiful interiors dating to the 1890s. This is a great opportunity to see diverse items in the society’s collection, including historic artifacts and images that have never been displayed before.
Fred Holland Day, a noted photographer, publisher, historian, and philanthropist, was born in the house in 1864, and lived there until his death in 1933.
Originally built in the Second Empire style in 1859, the Day family completely renovated the house in the early 1890s.
Our latest exhibit showcases the broad range of Fred Day’s interests, including prints of his well-known artistic photography, books from his publishing firm of Copeland & Day, and important historical artifacts relating to Norwood’s early history that he personally preserved.
The exhibit also features several items relating to Fred’s interest in the genealogy of Norwoods early families. These copies of handwritten notes, maps, and family trees compiled by Fred Day have never been on public display until now.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes. The Day House is also open for group tours and for research by appointment.
