Aaron Guild & the Patriots of South Dedham

On April 26, 2025, the Norwood Historical Society will host a special talk commemorating the brave men of South Dedham—now Norwood—who took up arms on April 19, 1775. The Battle of Lexington and Concord occurred on that day, igniting the American Revolutionary War. In recognition of its 250th anniversary, the talk will honor their courage and enduring legacy.
The keynote will focus on one of Norwood’s most storied Revolutionary War figures- Aaron Guild. He is famously remembered for leaving his plow in the field on April 19, 1775. He then left to join the fight for liberty.
The talk will highlight the broader contributions of South Dedham’s citizen-soldiers. Their rapid response following the alarm at Lexington reflected the region’s deep commitment to the cause of independence. Through original documents, maps, muster rolls, and genealogical records, attendees will gain insight into the lives of these early patriots. They will also learn a little about the sacrifices made by local families during the Revolutionary era.
The talk will take place following our annual members’ meeting and election.
