Dr. Frederick A. Cleveland, (1865 – 1945) for whom we dedicate this school today was a noted author and economist of national and international fame as well as an outstanding engineer, philosopher, builder and professor. His service to Norwood spanned fifty-three years, among them, nine years on the School Committee.
Dr. Cleveland, more than any other person, devoted many years to bringing to Norwood the Henry O. Peabody School For Girls. Dedicated to the conviction that this school should be located in Norwood, Dr. Cleveland personally, in a series of meetings with all interested groups, secured their support. Finally, as Chairman of the Committee on Negotiations with the Trustees of the Henry O. Peabody Fund and as Chairman of the Building Committee he lived to see it become a reality.
