Catholic Women’s Club Forms Reading Circle-This Day In Norwood History-December 15, 1939

The Norwood Catholic Women’s Club held its regular meeting on Wednesday evening, December 13, in the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Plans were announced for a formal supper dance to be held at Weber Duck Inn on January 24, with Mrs. William F. Lovell of Winter Street serving as chairman of the committee.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of a new Reading Circle within the club. Miss Julia Barrett of Prospect Avenue was chosen as secretary of the circle, which will begin with donated books from members and expand into a club library. The initiative reflects the group’s commitment to cultural enrichment alongside its social activities.

The program featured Miss Edith Winifred Fisher, who spoke on “Christmas Eve on Beacon Hill.” She brought with her an excellent collection of crèches from around the world, delighting the audience with stories of Christmas traditions.

Music was provided by an octette from St. Catherine’s Church choir under the direction of organist Joseph Ecker. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Michael Murphy and her committee, rounding out an evening that blended fellowship, culture, and holiday spirit.
