The body of Corporal Frederick T. Deeb, USMC, Norwood’s first repatriated war hero, will arrive this afternoon at 4:41 at the Norwood Central station, it was announced this morning.

Corporal Deeb, who met death in the Marshall Islands early in 1944, will be paid tribute by the community at symbolic services for all the towns war dead.

The body will be met at the Depot and accorded military honors by a Marine Corps League detail who will escort the body to Warabow’s funeral parlor.

Tomorrow morning Corporal Deeb’s remains will be taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. Ester Deeb, at 112 Cedar Street, and will remain there until 3:30 p.m. at which time the remains will be escorted to Memorial Hall. He will lie in state until Friday at 1:00 p.m. at which time full military honors including a procession to St George’s Syrian Orthodox Church in South Norwood, will be held. After the funeral services at the church, the members of the procession will board their vehicles and travel to the entrance of the Highland Cemetery, dismount, and March to the grave where final church and military services will be held.

Commander Robert Stewart of the Marine Corps League stated today that “The highest town tribute possible is being paid to our first dead Norwood son to return. This is fitting because he represents our thoughts at the time of all our hero or dead. With this thought in mind, I request that all merchants along the route of procession on Friday curtail their business establishments as the funeral Cortez passes along Washington Street to South Norwood.”

The Marine Corps League asks that all floral tributes be sent to Memorial Hall.
