Beautiful Model Store Opens Its Doors To Norwood Shoppers
The new super self-service A & P Market which opened its doors yesterday to the public as shown in an architect’s drawing. A thoroughly modern store, the market will be the second-largest A & P market in New England.
The new super self-service A. & P. store just opened in Norwood is one of the best equipped and most elaborately arranged stores in the town of Norwood. It is very conveniently located. There is ample parking space with an immense parking lot in back of the establishment to accommodate
many cars. A half hour parking privilege has been granted for the convienience of the customers. Officials of the A. & P. Company consider this one of the finest markets in New England and it is the second largest A. & P. market in Norfolk County.
It employs 46 local boys, and at the present lime four representatives of the A. & P. company are training the boys in their duties.
W. W. Burr of the Guild Street Market is general manager of the store and Sylvester McNeil of the Washington Street Market is manager of the meat department.
The market is ventilated by four van generators. The heating and ventilating systems were installed by Thomas P. Reilly of Norwood. The market was built by the Housing Securities’ Corporation of Norwood, expressly for the A .& P. Company, who lease the building. It was designed by Harry J. Korsland, who also designed the beautiful Guild Theatre Building. The building was constructed by the Platt Construction Company. Grading and ‘parking areas were built by Leon Johnson of Norwood.
One of the more striking and unique features of this beautiful market is the strictly modern stucco surface, and marble front.
