Pvt. J. M. Welch Overseas Only Three Months

Pvt. Joseph M. Welch. 35, the father of two children who went overseas only three months ago, has been missing in action in Italy since October 25th, the War Department announced this morning in a telegram to the soldier’s brother, John H. Welch of 40 Hill Street.

Pvt. Welch, who had been in the service only a year, was serving with an anti-tank outfit on the Italian front. No further information was given by the War Department, which said that details would be forwarded as soon as they were available.

Pvt. Welch’s wife, the former Mary Johnson of Norwood, resides on Lenox Street, with their two children. Beverly, 9, and Mary, 5.

The missing soldier attended the schools of Norwood and was employed at the Neponset Wollen Mills in Canton prior to entering the service. He received his training at Camp Blanding, Florida.

His father, Joseph Welch, resides at 103, Railroad Avenue.
