Ken Wheeler

Next Monday afternoon from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., four outstanding young people from Norwood Senior High School will pit their skill in a battle of games and stunts against a similar team of young people from East Providence High School on Ken Wheeler’s popular ‘‘High School Pow-Wow” program over WJAR-TV, Channel 10 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Representing the local high school in Norwood will be these four outstanding young people: Patricia Fowler and Sara Feeney members of the girls basketball team; Thomas Connolly, president of the Senior Class and member of the varsity hockey team; Robert Pillsbury, co-captain of last year’s football team, who hopes to enter either Yale or Harvard College next year.

In addition to this fine team of young people the seven attractive cheerleaders captained by Leslie Novick will also be “on camera” during the half-hour program. The other six members of the cheering squad are: Joan Butters, Nancy Cass, Lorraine Elias, Carolyn Miller, Dolores Peckham and Arlene Connolly.

The program “High School Pow-Wow” is produced and emceed by Ken Wheeler of Westwood, and was designed for presentation to give the young people an opportunity of appearing on TV and at the same time to learn of some of the tremendous amount of work necessary to produce a single “live” television program. Mr. Wheeler has been in the radio and television field for the past 17 years and has also presented assembly programs to high school students on TV technique all over New England for 10 years. Long Play record albums will be awarded to all “team” members and a special handsome plaque will be presented to the winning school during the program.
