The Friendly Ice Cream Corporation of Wilbraham, Massachusetts will reach a milestone when it opens its 100th ice cream and sandwich shop on Nahatan street in Norwood on March 5th according to an announcement by Robert J. Gaudrault, Executive Vice President of the firm. It will be the 23rd shop in Eastern Massachusetts.

In observance of the 100th opening, the Corporation will plan several special activities for March 5th. The opening ceremonies will be highlighted by the release of 100 helium-filled balloons (one for each Friendly Shop). Postcards will be attached to the balloons which entitle the finder to a reward. The postcard which travels the greatest distance from the Norwood Shop will entitle its lucky finder to a special prize.

Other opening day innovations will include the distribution of souvenir buttons and coloring books to children. Several dignitaries are expected to attend. Friendly shops feature sandwiches, soup, and ice cream. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sundays 11 a.m. to midnight. It is anticipated that the store will hire between 25-30 persons.
