The Norwood Public Safety building when completed in 1964.

NORWOOD — A proposed $573,000 public safety center, to house the fire and police departments and a Civil Defense communication headquarters, will be acted on by the 1963 town meeting.

The center would be located at Dunn’s Field, opposite the Nahatan st. shopping center, according to present plans.

An agreement has been reached by the Fire Station Building Committee, the Finance Commission, and the Board of Selectmen .on the erection of the new combination building. An article will be inserted in the warrant for action at the town meeting.

Dr Harold Knudson of the Building Committee has prepared a model of the proposed building, and expects that final plans and specifications will be ready shortly to go out on bid.

The present fire station on Central st. would be sold. Money obtained from the sale would be used to assist in payment of the cost of the new building, which will house a police lockup and a communications center.

Town meeting members have appropriated $25,000 for plans and specifications and the architectural firm of Korslund, LeNorman, and Quann of this town is at work on the proposal.
