Air Medal Is Awarded To First Lieutenant F. Gordon Allen. Jr.

AAF. PACIFIC OCEAN AREAS. Central Pacific — First Lt F. Gordon Allen. Jr., of 281 Winter street, Norwood, has been awarded the Air Medal for 7th AAF medium bombardment missions in the Central Pacific.

The 7th AAF ceremony at which he received the award was presided over by Lt. Gen. Millard F. Harmon. Commanding General of Army Air Forces. Pacific Ocean Areas, and Deputy Commander of the 20th AAF: and Col. J. R. Anderson, Chief of Staff, Headquarters. Army Air Forces. Pacific Ocean Areas, at a base in the Hawaiian Islands.

Lt. Allen, a pilot of a 7th AAF B-25 Mitchell bomber, arrived in the Central Pacific in May. 1944, and has seen combat action over the Gilbert, Marshall and Caroline Islands.

He was cited for meritorious achievement in flight. The citation reads in part:

“As a member of a bombardment-type aircraft crew, he displayed high professional skill, courage and devotion to duty which exemplifies the highest tradition of the Army Air Forces.”

Lt. Allen is the son of Mrs. Estelle M. Allen of the Norwood ad-
