George T. Lee, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Lee of 26 Rock Street, Norwood, has been commissioned a .second lieutenant in the Army Air Forces. He received his “wings*’ at the graduation exercises held here on Wednesday, August 5th.
Lieutenant Lee graduated from Norwood High School In 1937. He was accepted as an aviation cadet at Boston on December I5, 1911.
Before a large assemblage of relatives and friends, the graduates heard Colonel Y. H. Taylor, Spence Field Commanding Officer, call for the realization that “we are engaged in a knock-down-and- drag-out brawl upon the outcome of which hinges our future as an independent race.” He said there was only one solution when war is thrust upon us and that is to “learn to work—learn to hate— learn to destroy” so as to preserve one’s right to self-determination.
Major W.îliam H. Councill, Director of Training, presented diplomas to the graduates, and also commissions to the graduating cadets. The “wings” were presented by Lt. Colonel Daniel I. Moler, Post Executive Officer.
The exercises opened with the graduating class, bearing the colors, marching in review, lead by the Post Band. The ceremony was held at the Post baseball field. At the conclusion of the ceremonies a flight of P-39’s, from a Florida field, flew over in formation.
